A Look At The Taiwanese Language And How It Originated

The term Taiwanese is but one name for a language that is widely spoken in Taiwan and in mainland China. This is a language that is also a dialect that is widely spoken in South China and it is even spoken in countries of southeastern Asia. The language itself is called by a number of names and if you do not comprehend what each name refers to, you could forgive yourself for the confusion. Most people are also easily confused by these names as well. This is due to the fact that there are many language variations in terms of its character as well as the region where it is spoken. Taiwanese is widely spoken in the northern, southern, urban and rural parts of Taiwan. In addition, this language is also spoken in Southeast Asia as well as in China. Despite being made up of several different dialects, the language is still really just a single language. But, it has names that have ethnic origins and among other names for it, those such as Hokkien and Southern Min are widely used.

Southern Min is basically a translated form of the Mandarin word Min3 nan2 hua4/yu3. This term is really a geographical term and refers to the language of the southern parts of Fujian while the term Min is derived from Min3 which is from China and more particularly its Fujian province.

Many people who are familiar with Southern Min will be sharing common ancestry through cultural relations with each other and they also have blood relations. More particularly, these connections are related to people from the southern parts of Fujian who live in cities such as Zhangzhou, Amoy and Quanzhou. Whats more, this language is still being spoken in this part of the world.

In point of fact, Taiwanese is a translation of the world Tai2 yu3 which is a name that dates back to the period when the Japanese were ruling these parts which in turn was between 1895 and 1945. This is also an original Taiwan name and is also believed to be a geographic name and it is also considered a name given by people of Taiwan for their language.

Taipei, Taiwan or the Northern Taiwan City is the largest of all cities in all of Taiwan and is also the capital of that country. It is situated on the tip of the island nation and is close to the Danshui River and about twenty five kilometers southwest of the port city of Keelung.
