A Young Gentleman Hits a Low Point in His Life, Triumphs Over His Depression, Gets Alcohol Therapy for His Irresponsible and Hazardous Drinking, Bolsters His Personal Happiness and Self Esteem
Samuel was a thirty-three-year-old public relations manager who was fed up with feeling depressed everyday and sick of his careless and excessive drinking behavior. Stated simply, he missed his old motivation for doing various things he enjoyed, he hated the hangovers he went through on a regular basis, he was sick of feeling tired every morning, he was irate with himself for spending his hard-earned money on a worthless habit, and he was tired of going through broken relationship after broken relationship due to his heavy drinking.
Additionally he was appalled with how physically unfit he was, he hated the fact that he had to go to court for his second DWI, he was bored with his drinking friends, he was fed up with paying for alcohol-related attorney fees, and he was aggravated with the many times he failed an alcohol test at his place of employment.
On top of the observable alcohol-related health problems he now experienced, in all probability the most troublesome part of his drinking behavior was the untrustworthy and dishonest person he had turned into. In his heart of hearts he realized that he had been less than truthful about his drinking behavior to his relatives, family, and friends and he also knew he had been untruthful with himself about the “beneficial” consequences of drinking. Not only this but he justified wolfing down four or five drinks before going to social events and he also justified needing a few drinks as soon as he awakened so that he could cope with the “tension” at work.
His Depression and His Abusive and Hazardous Drinking Lead to Major Changes in His Life
Without a doubt Samuel was sick of putting up with the negative consequences of his depression and his hazardous and abusive drinking and eventually decided that something major had to change in his life. So he made up his mind that he would abstain from drinking, develop a new circle of friends, involve himself in some worthwhile hobbies, get professional counseling, start exercising, and start focusing on becoming a more healthy person. In short, Samuel got to a critical time in his life during which he realized that he hit the bottom of the barrel in his life and was now prepared to commence the gradual and slow road that leads to health.
One of the ways that Samuel initiated his “plan” was by asking for a transfer at his workplace. When his request was granted, he moved 300 miles away to a new part of the U.S.. If nothing else, this beyond doubt made making new friends and buddies and disconnecting himself from his old friends and pals simpler. Then he went to see a doctor in his new city and made an appointment for a comprehensive mental and physical examination.
Samuel Meets With a Healthcare Practitioner About His Irresponsible and Excessive Drinking and His Depression
After meeting with the healthcare professional and going through a number of lab tests, it was decided that Samuel had crossed the line from alcohol abuse to dependency on alcohol and as a result was in need of alcohol detoxification and alcohol treatment. At this time, the doctor made it a point to discuss the diverse signs of alcoholism, the symptoms of alcoholism, and information about long term alcohol effects with Samuel. The physician then told Samuel that it was decided that he was clinically depressed and in need of therapy for this medical issue.
Samuel Decides to Fortify His Body by Exercising, Taking Vitamins and Minerals, Living an Alcohol-Free Lifestyle, Drinking Spring Water, and Eating Nutritious Foods
Due to his readiness to follow through with the treatment protocol, after nine weeks of inpatient treatment, Samuel was ready to begin rehabilitation on an outpatient basis. At this point, he began working at his new job and over the weeks began fortifying his body by eating wholesome foods, taking vitamins and minerals, living an alcohol-free way of life, drinking spring water, and exercising. Samuel also attended to his spiritual side of life by joining the local Baptist church and attending regular services.
After roughly seven months of outpatient therapy during which time he never went through a relapse, Samuel stopped going to alcohol rehab and instead started going twice per week to local AA meetings. Going to these meetings helped Samuel maintain his alcohol-free lifestyle, they gave him the support he needed, and they served as a faithful reminder of the damaging results that are correlated with careless and hazardous drinking.
After going to AA meetings approximately three months Samuel felt that he was ready for a relationship and so he started going out with Tracy, a young woman he met at church. It simply astonished Samuel how much more ready he was for a dating relationship now that he had his hazardous and excessive drinking under control. Indeed it also amazed Samuel how much better life was now that he wasn’t under the control of his careless drinking. Life was now good and loaded with possibilities that he could have never yearned for or made real when he was involved in abusive and careless drinking just a few short months ago.
A Success Story That is a Demonstration of the Importance of Alcohol Rehab and the Power of Positive Thinking
Samuel’s success story is a testimony of the value of alcohol rehab and the power of change. As Samuel thought about his newfound positive self image and drive for involving himself in worthwhile, healthy activities, he was actually thankful that he made up his mind to do something constructive about his hazardous and careless drinking instead of giving into his depression and into the lure of his alcohol addiction. The result: he is involved in a caring relationship, he has more energy now compared with any time in his adult life, he enjoys his new job responsibilities, his life now has a positive direction, and he is in charge of his life rather than letting himself deteriorate under the control of his alcohol dependency.
