Motivation Techniques
I received another great question this week - what motivation techniques do I use to drive me to achieve success time after time whatever life throws at me? I have rephrased it a bit but my thanks to Debra for raising the question.

The answer is that I have a few general motivation techniques that I use in all situations and more specific motivation techniques that I use for goal or desire achievement. The point is that they always work for me. I will not lie to you and say that I never get feelings of “Ah shit I will do it tomorrow” or “I will do it after the match” and so on but by falling back on my motivation techniques I always save the day.

General Motivation Techniques

1. I Believe That I Can Do Anything

I have confronted many of my fears, changed my core beliefs and achieved things that I never even knew how to start by adopting the belief that I can do anything. This is a motivation technque that I use every day and if I have concerns about finishing something or even starting it I just say to myself “I can do this!”

2. I Believe In Continuosly Growing

I have developed a passion for learning new things. Believe that learning does not stop at school/college/university. This is just academic learning. Life learning is an everyday occurence for me.

3. Action

I take action every day. Even doing small things that just take a few minutes I do them anyway. Even thinking about how you will achieve something is taking action. This sends very strong signals to your subconscious mind and cements the belief that you are a doer. Taking action everyday is a very strong motivation technique.

4. I Believe That Time Is Against Me

Time is everybody’s most precious commodity. Much more important than money. Nobody knows just how much time they have and if you believe that it is slipping away then this will force you to do those important things today rather than tomorrow.

Goal Orientated Motivation Techniques

1. Have A Big Why

What is the real reason that you want to earn a million dollars by Thursday? It certainly wont be just having the money, it will be what you want from the money that’s important. This could be a dream home or car, the peace of mind that comes from a debt free life and financial freedom and so on. Make it real and it will drive you forward with an incredible determination.

2. Create An Emotional Driver

Once that you know the real reason for your goal or desire link strong emotion to achieving it. Going back to our million dollars example you could have an emotional driver that states “I am going to make this money to give my darling wife the life she deserves” or “I want to get this money to prove that I am better than that pompous asshole John Doe” It doesn’t matter what it is as long as it ignites a fire under your buttocks. This is one of the strongest motivation techniques that I have developed and it works like gang busters!

So what are you waiting for? These are very easy to adopt in your daily routine and I promise you will see some tremendous results in your personal power. As usual I will tell you that these motivation techniques will only work if you actually use them - duh.

Time is slipping away my friend…………….

Until next time

Am I At War With Steve Pavlina?

Am I At War With Steve Pavlina?

Steve Pavlina

I get asked a lot of crazy questions but this one ranks up there with the craziest. Recently I was asked - “Am I at war with Steve Pavlina?” Well I can tell you that I am absolutely NOT at war with Steve Pavlina but I was so intrigued by the question that I wanted to set the record straight and expand on this crazy idea below.

In my opinion, Steve Pavlina and I are very, very different. Yes we both own personal development blogs and we are both passionate about helping people grow and make a success of their lives but that is probably where the similarity ends.

Steve Pavlina has an excellent web site and blog and offers sound advice on a number of life changing topics. He writes very lengthy posts on different subjects in a very readable style. He has a very “helpful” style and offers a lot of useful advice. His manner is very pleasant and he would never offend anyone.

My style is completely different. I am often very controversial, never afraid to call a spade a spade and I am really not interested in taking any prisoners. People either love my style or hate it. I am not bothered about this as all I care about is helping those who are with me to succeed. They don’t call me the Sledgehammer for nothing!

I believe that Steve Pavlina also devotes most of his time to his online presence. This is vastly different from my situation as I am running companies in China and devoting as much time as possible to my Blog and other online activities. I admire the way that Steve has built up a large following in a short space of time. My following is also growing and I am very proud of this and grateful to all of you who spend time here.

So in summary, I am not at war with Steve Pavlina, never have been and never will be. We have totally different styles but we share a common goal which is your success.

I will be back soon, in the meantime please keep the crazy questions coming ;-)

The Secret About The Secret

The Secret About The Secret

the secret

Have you seen “The Secret?” Everybody has been talking about this movie since its launch last year. I see it on forums, other blogs and countless other places. After some persuasion, I will now give you my view on this movie. Better stop reading if you scare easily ;-)

What Is The Secret?

For those of you that don’t know what the f@ck I am droning on about, “The Secret” is a movie that extols the virtues of the Law of Attraction. Now you know that I am a fan of the law of attraction but I don’t see things quite as plain and simply as “The Secret” does.

If you haven’t seen “The Secret” you can see the first 20 minutes of it on YouTube by going here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_b1GKGWJbE8

The Secret basically states that we are all bundles of energy floating around in the universe and that there are life laws that if obeyed will give you the life of your dreams. They are essentially referring to the law of attraction. They go on further to say that most of the high and mighty of the past knew The Secret - Shakespeare, Lincoln, Edison, Einstein, Churchill, Sledge…………………….. For the rest of the great and the unwashed, The Secret was deliberately locked away so that they would lead a totally meaningless, dull, crap existence as a result. I don’t know about The Secret being locked away but if you tread the normal boards of life and listen to most people then humdrumness (I just invented a new word!) will always be your reward. In my opinion there was no need to lock it away!

Anyway, to apply “The Secret” the movie tells you that you just need to apply the following process:

Ask

Believe

Receive

Basically, you need to decide what it is you want, then believe that you already have it and then when it turns up be grateful that you received it. Hmmmm. This is too much “blind faith” for me. All of the things that I have achieved in my life have come from a similar process but I never just waited for them to appear. I believe that you have to take this a step further.

Yes for sure whatever you think about with emotion will determine how your life will pan out. The example in The Secret given by Jack Canfield, author of “Chicken Soup For The Soul” is much more plausible. He said that he wished for $100,000 and attached very strong emotion to this. He was in the shower a few days later and this great idea came to him. He wrote the book and manifested the money. This is the great power of the subconscious mind. I have had experiences like this on many occasions and by acting upon these ideas has brought me tremendous success.

I am not going to knock the movie, as anything that promotes positive thinking is good in my book. But I will say that the concept of wanting something strongly and then sitting on your spotty butt until it arrives raises some real concerns for me. Acting on ideas from your subconscious when you want something - now that’s worth its weight in gold ;-)

See ya

Auto Navigation Systems that use Laptops or PDAs

You may or may not be aware of the many options on today’s market when it comes to auto navigation systems. Take my word for it there are now more options than ever before with new options appearing daily. Among the many options that are available for those of you who are interested in obtaining equipment that will assist you in finding your way on long and short trips there are options that can be used along with your laptop or PDA devices. If you currently own and use on a regular basis a laptop or PDA the software or other devices and receivers that are required in order to utilize your laptop as a GPS device aren’t nearly as expensive as purchasing a stand alone auto navigation system.

In fact, as far as money savers go, this is a great way to save money on your purchase and receive the same great benefits that some of the top of the line auto navigation systems has to offer. You will find these types of devices that are geared towards as many different budgets as the actual stand alone systems. Some of the more popular of these tools include the following:

1) US Global Sat BU-353 USB port GPS Receiver. This nifty device costs less than $100 and allows you to turn your laptop or pc into a GPS. This is a great feature for finding directions and attaches to your laptop through the USB port.

2) DeLorme Earthmate LT-20 GPS. This is also a little less than $100 and gives your laptop fully functional navigation features. This not only works with laptops but also with Palm OS. You will experience rapid satellite acquisition and you have the Street Atlas software to guide you towards your destination. The software is included with the Earthmate. This software will even recalculate your directions should you miss a turn along the way. For the price, I highly recommend this if you have a PDA or laptop already.

3) DeLorme Earthmate Blue Logger Bluetooth Wireless GPS. This is another nifty tool by DeLorme. This device will allow you to receive a real time image of your location but requires an unobstructed view of the sky in order to accurately record its current position. This device also works with Street Atlas software in order to assist you in charting your course and giving proper driving directions.

4) Tom Tom Navigator 6 Bluetooth. If you are looking for feature rich navigation then this is certainly the tool for you. This is useful with laptops and Palm systems. Not only will you find mapping technology that is quite superior but you will also find useful things such as parking garages, fueling stations, and restaurants along the way.

You will notice a great variety of prices and features with these devices. The important thing to remember is that you want the same or better features for less with this type of equipment since you are providing either the laptop or the PDA. If you already have the laptop or PDA you should be able to save a tremendous amount of money over the costs of purchasing a stand-alone auto navigation system. If you aren’t getting an incredible bargain you might want to debate whether or not the system you opt for really is the best system for you.

Perhaps the most important thing to keep in mind is the fact that your laptop or PDA can become an important tool in keeping you on the right track when traveling. You may be one of the lucky few who has never gotten lost while traveling (or one of those who refuses to believe they are lost) however, if you aren’t then perhaps it is time to seriously invest in either software, equipment, or devices that can help you find your way whenever you are lost. Laptop and PDA equipment offer great alternatives for those who need navigational assistance but need to remain within a strict budget.

Bean Bag for Your Camera

Watching television at home and sitting in your favorite bean bag offers a lot of comfort. But did you know that not all bean bags are large? If you’re a photographer, you’ve probably seen one of this. Yes, there are bean bags which are quite small, and are used for your cameras.

It’s but ordinary to see people walking around with cameras dangling from their necks. Photographers are just like that, they want to be ready in case they spot something that might catch their interest. But what if you need to carry your camera from one place to another? You probably don’t want it to get wet if it rains, or get too much dust when you’re on the outside.

One effective way of carrying your camera safely is putting it inside a camera bag. This not only protects your camera from harsh weathers but also keeps it from being stolen. By now, you’re aware that there are a lot of people out there who are looking for likely victims for their crimes like robbery and hold ups.

Choosing a bag for your camera can be rather time consuming. Either you find a bag which is too small or you find one that is too big. Perhaps, it’s a good idea to bring your camera when you go shopping for a camera bag.

Some bags are great for storing your camera along with its other accessories, but you can never be satisfied with just one bag. Sometimes, you find camera bags which are not padded enough to allow full camera protection. In this case, you can make use of bean bags.

There are bean bags especially made for cameras, like the one manufactured by Adorama. The Adorama bean bag supports the camera and its lenses. It protects it from getting damaged both in even and uneven surfaces. The bag is made from non-skid materials filled with pellets, designed not to hold moisture or prevents it from deteriorating. Bean bags can fit any camera bag, regardless of its size to protect and support your camera. The Adorama bean bag measure six inches by eight inches.

There are also other brands of bean bags available. You can find lots of them in online stores like eBay and next.com. All bean bags are designed to support your camera if your camera bag has too much space. Putting camera bean bags gives added protection so you can be sure that no matter how much you move, you’re camera will be secured.

Bean bags are cheap. In fact, you can find camera bean bags for less than ten dollars. So you can purchase any camera bag you like, and if there is a need for a bean bag, just put it inside the camera bag.

The camera bag alone has also other uses. It can be used to carry other things, so just to make sure that you have a spare bean bag for your camera so that it won’t get in the way of your other personal things.

Bean bags come in different colors; but the most common are blue and black. It’s a very useful accessory if you have a camera bag. If you can’t find the one that you’re looking for in online stores, you can also do some shopping around in your local stores. Bring your camera along and see if the bean bags suit your camera.
